Information:
Why This Website:
The Foundation for Religious Freedom International (a
non-profit, tax exempt, organization run by an Interfaith Board of
Directors) in association with many individuals and groups has
started a new initiative called “Better Choices.”
The
core activity of the “Better Choices” initiative is an
information resource and referral service that will provide
resources for better choices than psychiatric ones.
Why
do people need Better Choices?
Because
psychiatry has chosen to label almost all human behavior as a
“mental disorder” and reduces life to brains and chemicals,
completely ignoring the obvious spiritual element that is the
person themselves: their sense of humor, their ability to love,
their appreciation of beauty, their ability to recover from
horrible life situations and get back on top of things if they are
helped to do so, not drugged into hopelessness.
What
will you find here?
This
website includes information on how to respond if someone is
trying to label you with a psychiatric disorder, what to do for
someone who has fallen into the mental health system (has been
given a “diagnosis,” is on psychiatric drugs, is being
required to see a counselor by court order or as part of a divorce
proceeding) and much more.
We
have links to information on how to taper off of psychiatric
drugs, a program (The Road Back ) which is very successful.
How
to protect yourself if you have to deal with someone in the mental
health industry (tape record all conversations, get everything in
writing), never see a psychiatrist alone, etc.
The
website is for anyone clergy/ spiritually based counselors,
individuals, family members, teachers, social workers of the
importance of dealing with the whole person – not his brain –
to help recover from depression, to overcome anxiety, panic
attacks, to remove forever the labels of ADHD and ADD, and much
more.
Why are we so interested in Clergy?
The Foundation has researched and discovered that according
to studies done by psychiatrists themselves 70% of people who feel
they may be suffering from depression, anxiety, etc. turn first to
a clergy person for help. Unfortunately,
many clergy in turn send such individuals to psychiatrists,
thinking psychiatrists are the "professionals" for
mental problems.
Why
are Better Choices so important?
There are many doctors, health professionals, counselors,
and others who know there are better choices than psychiatry.
They have websites, they have successful actions (from
finding allergies of kids labeled "ADHD" to Lyme's
disease, to a huge variety of things.
There are some good websites out there that address
specific areas, (like www.blockcenter.com for kids labeled with
ADHD and www.alternativementalhealth.com for finding doctors who
will find the real medical condition to www.mindfreedom.com for
psychiatric survivors).
Do
you have a referral service?
Yes. Part of BETTER
CHOICES is a referral service for medical doctors and clergy and
counselors who will not label people and will not use coercive
measures. .) There
are already over 100 people who have signed up for that service,
and that will be continually increased.
That activity will continue and expand.
